I figured Daily Kos would be a great place to ask this question.I appologize for taking up space on the diary list with this. If you think I should delete, speak up and I will.
I'm a high school senior going through the college application process right now. I've already applied to some schools, one of which has already accepted me. My worst nightmare is to go to a school that is politically apathetic. The Washington D.C. schools, however, where I know I won't encounter this problem, don't seem like the best fits...
My first choice right now is Tulane. I'm already in and I got an incredibly generous scholarship that makes it my cheapest option by far. I would not have applied pre-Katrina. I'm interested because I want to help rebuild the city from a natrual disaster that affected my political worldview more than probably any other event in my life.
While there are some other things I'm worried about with Tulane (too much partying, too many rich kids) the ammount of political activism on campus is hard to gauge. I think it certainly has increased since Katrina but I doubt it rivals American University, GW, and Georgetown, all three of which I've applied to.
The College of William and Mary is the other school that really peaks my interest yet I'm also having trouble gauging the campus's level of political activism. Otherwise, it's a great fit but I'm very doubtful about my chances as an out of state applicant.
Are there any schools outside of D.C. that are equally politically active? I still have a few more weeks to get more applications ready.
Again, I appologize for wasting space on the recent diary list and promise to never do anything like this again. Thank you all in advance!
